In an effort to strengthen the management and conservation of Regional Conservation Areas (RCAs) in the Ucayali region, the Regional Environmental Authority of the Ucayali region, Nature and Culture International (NCI) and Profonanpe, through the Financial Mechanism of the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDoI), led by the Ministry of Environment (MINAM), held meetings in collaboration with local communities and stakeholders of two Regional Conservation Areas Imiria and the Alto Tamaya-Abujao Communal Regional Conservation Area.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The objective of the JDoI is to provide technical assistance and support with human and logistical resources to the Regional Environmental Authority of Ucayali, so that they can operationalize each of the actions planned under the \u201cEffective Management of Regional Conservation Areas (RCA)\u201d result of the project’s 2024 Annual Operational Plan.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In a collaborative and participative work, we were able to identify gaps and propose improvement actions to achieve the commitments assumed in the Global Operational Plan to 2025. These actions guarantee effective monitoring of the project\u2019s progress.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As part of its advocacy actions in the localities, the DCI also participated in the workshop \u201cTraining of the Work Plan of the Management Committee of the Alto Tamaya-Abujao Communal Regional Conservation Area – CATA.\u201d \u201cThis RCA is one of those contemplated to work with the project, so it has been relevant to know how they are strengthening their management committee. From the DCI we seek to be the strategic ally of the regional government of Pucallpa, and the RCAs, to ensure the conservation of forests and key ecosystems with a view to mitigating the effects of climate change,\u201d<\/em> said Cecilia Flores, Manager of the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDoI) Project.<\/span><\/p>\n

The joint effort of the JDoI and the Ucayali Regional Environmental Authority demonstrates the commitment of all parties involved in the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources in the Ucayali region, laying the groundwork for a more prosperous and balanced future for local communities and the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

About the JDoI<\/span><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

In 2014, Peru signed a cooperation agreement with the countries of Norway and Germany, called Joint Declaration of Intent – JDoI, which was extended in 2021 with the inclusion of the United Kingdom and the United States as observers. This agreement seeks to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in our country, which are produced as a result of deforestation and degradation of Amazonian forests. This strengthens the national REDD+ strategy and contributes to sustainable development.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Board of Directors of Phase II of the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDoI) is made up of representatives of the Ministry of the Environment; the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, through SERFOR; the Ministry of Economy and Finance; the Ministry of Culture; the regional governments of San Mart\u00edn, Hu\u00e1nuco, Ucayali, Loreto, Amazonas and Madre de Dios; the Norwegian Embassy; and the indigenous organizations AIDESEP, CONAP and ANECAP.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
