As part of the strengthening of the co-management model for Communal Reserves, the National Association of Executors of Communal Reserve Management Contracts in Peru (ANECAP) has carried out various actions together with the native communities of Santa Rosa de Cauchillo, Huapapa, and Primavera, which are part of the Organization of Indigenous Communities of Bajo Putumayo and R\u00edo Yaguas (OCIBPRY) and are partners of the RCBPY.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With the support of the Conserva Aves Initiative, through its leading partners Profonanpe and ECOAN, ANECAP has coordinated key actions in the territory. These efforts have been aimed at strengthening co-management between the native communities and SERNANP and promoting biodiversity conservation and sustainable development through the management of natural resources in the area.<\/p>\n

Indigenous women at the heart of conservation and the local economy<\/strong><\/p>\n

From August 8 to 14, ANECAP\u2019s technical team, accompanied by OCIBPRY president Edwin V\u00e1squez, visited the three communities to share the progress made in establishing the RCBPY and to listen to the voices of the chiefs and women leaders. In each community, this figure\u2014elected by vote and responsible for safeguarding the well-being of women and their children\u2014opened a space for dialogue and offered testimonies about their experience in the prior consultation process.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

During the visits, participatory assessments were carried out to identify productive activities with great potential, such as chambira handicrafts, the use of natural dyes, and the preservation of traditional iconography. Of particular note was the active participation of women from the Bora, Kichwa, Tikuna, and Yagua peoples, who expressed their interest in strengthening their enterprises\u2014particularly the production of chambira baskets and fans\u2014improving production on their family farms, and accessing more training opportunities on the role of women in economic activities.<\/p>\n

In addition, OCIBPRY, with technical support from ANECAP, participated in two important events: the inauguration of the Maloka (House of Indigenous Memory) with indigenous organizations from Putumayo and authorities from MINAM, SERNANP, the National Forest Conservation Program for Climate Change Mitigation (PNCBMCC), GERDAGRI, WCS, among others; and during the installation of the Multisectoral Commission for the Pacification and Integral Development of Putumayo with the support of DRIS, where the Supreme Decree establishing the RCBPY was presented.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Through these actions, and with technical support from Profonanpe and Ecoan, ANECAP reaffirms its commitment to strengthening indigenous organizations, promoting the full and effective participation of indigenous leaders, and consolidating the co-management model as a key step toward the conservation of communal reserves, the ancestral territories of indigenous peoples, and the sustainable development of the native communities that live around them.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
