With the aim of promoting sustainable development and conservation in the Peruvian Amazon, Peru\u2019s private environmental fund, Profonanpe, has launched the Amazon Bioinvestment 2026 competition, through which it will provide a total of USD $600,000 in funding to bio-businesses that contribute to forest restoration and greenhouse gas reduction in six regions of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In addition to strengthening the business models of the winning companies, this initiative seeks to generate environmental and social impact. In this regard, it is expected that, over the next ten years, the promotion of sustainable bio-businesses will contribute to mitigating climate change through the conservation and restoration of 81,000 hectares of Amazonian forest, the creation of 550 green jobs, and the mitigation of 1.9 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO\u00b2).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This edition of Amazon Bioinvestment, promoted in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment (Minam) and financed by the Green Climate Fund, will focus on strengthening bio-businesses in the Amazon regions of Amazonas, Loreto, San Mart\u00edn, Madre de Dios, Cusco, and Puno, prioritizing issues related to agricultural production under agroforestry systems, timber and non-timber forest use, ecotourism, and wildlife management.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The companies that are selected will receive partially repayable seed capital ranging from USD $50,000 to USD $150,000 per beneficiary organization, with a repayment period of up to seven years for a percentage of the amount granted.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In addition to financing, the selected bio-businesses will be part of a business advisory program to strengthen their capacities in areas such as finance and operations, strategic planning, and marketing so that they are prepared to interact effectively with potential investors.<\/span><\/p>\n
