{"id":28072,"date":"2026-03-08T22:21:21","date_gmt":"2026-03-09T03:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ingles.profonanpe.org.pe\/?p=28072"},"modified":"2026-03-08T22:21:21","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T03:21:21","slug":"peru-norway-germany-and-the-united-kingdom-renew-their-commitment-to-protecting-the-amazon-rainforest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ingles.profonanpe.org.pe\/?p=28072","title":{"rendered":"Peru, Norway, Germany, and the United Kingdom renew their commitment to protecting the Amazon rainforest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Friday, February 27<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from Peru, Norway, Germany, and the United Kingdom signed a new Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI), reaffirming their shared commitment to halt deforestation in the Amazon and advance the effective and sustainable reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This new stage of cooperation will remain in force until 2030 and seeks to consolidate the progress made since 2014. The aim is to accelerate measures aimed at biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of Amazonian forests, together with the promotion of sustainable economic activities that contribute to a low-emission development model compatible with the protection of the Amazonian territory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The implementation of this new agreement will be carried out in a coordinated manner between the Environment, Agricultural Development and Irrigation, and Culture sectors, in coordination with Amazonian regional governments and indigenous peoples\u2019 organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Supreme Decree No. 001-2023-MINAM, Profonanpe is the entity responsible for administering the funds for the implementation of the phases of reducing GHG emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+) within the framework of the JDI Agreement between Peru, Germany, Norway, and the United Kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The renewed JDI updates the agreement signed in 2014 by the governments of Peru, Norway, and Germany, which incorporated the United Kingdom in an addendum signed for the period 2021\u20132025.
